But I won't update my firmware just yet until I'm clear with everything. ![]() What's the case with firmware 4.2 then? I've heard it's extremely risky to update to it (which is probably why you told me to update to 4.1).Īnyway, thanks for those two methods of updating to 4.1. Okay, so updating my firmware will only possibly remove the softmod. NeoGamma gets pretty annoying after a while compared to it's (the Disc Channel's) convenience. It's not being able to play my backups using the Disc Channel. Right now, my concern isn't the semi-brick. I'm already aware that my Wii was semi-bricked because of an out-of-region update. I haven't updated my firmware since 2008, which is why I'm using NeoGamma. Could this mean that it's safe to update to 3.?(*). Their Wii was able to play later games (such as Mario Super Sluggers) than mine via the Disc Channel (which means they somehow got their firmware updated to a later version than mine). Can you tell me anything I can look for to possibly identify the chip without opening the console? Or maybe you have an idea of a chip that is popular throughout Indonesia which majority of gamimg stores use (which is pretty unlikely since there are heaps)? And just so you know, my cousin bought a Wii from the exact same store, only a few weeks later (it was also modchipped but not softmodded). I bought it in Jakarta (Indonesia) in 2008. Yes, my Wii is definately American.Īs for which modchip is installed, I won't be able to find out. I've been searching everywhere for answers like that. Out of curiosity, is it any different if you update firmware with a backup game instead of it's original copy? Is it safe to update the firmware to 3.3U or higher with a modchip installed (that inoperability message scares me and yes, I know that people have said that it's completely safe but I just need to make sure)?Ĥ. If I was to update my firmware to, let's say, 3.3U or higher, would it stuff up (brick) my Wii considering that I have cIOS249 installed?ģ. Is it necessary to have NeoGamma R7 installed if my Wii is already modchipped?Ģ. Okay, now that you're clear with that I've got a few questions.ġ. My current firmware is probably 3.0, 3.1 or 3.2 (I don't know what it is exactly because of the semi-brick, and I think it's semi-bricked with a European firmware). Oh yes, and my Wii is also both semi-bricked and has duplicate News and Forecast Channels. The things that were installed were the Homebrew Channel (duh) and NeoGamma R7 (which means that cIOS249 rev 14 was also installed). I bought it already modchipped, so I don't know what chip is inside it (and I don't want to go and open it up). I'm just going to provide some background information on my Wii to help you help me: #INSTALL MODCHIP WII CRACKED#You load the cracked game-save file and "either walk backwards or talk to the man standing in front of you".I'm having a few problems with softmods, modchips, semi-bricks and firmware (hence the title of this thread). Then, you play The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. You download a file, put it on an SD card and slip it into the Wii. So you can, you know, keep your original discs safe.īut the best part of this whole story is the method for cracking your Wii open in the first place, which reads like some cross between William Gibson and Disney. #INSTALL MODCHIP WII MOVIE#You will also be able to play movie files from an SD card inserted into the Wii, and future versions will let you play games from DVDs you have burned yourself. #INSTALL MODCHIP WII INSTALL#According to the instructions, "The DVDX installer instead will install a small, hidden, channel on your Wii that allows you to read DVDs on an unmodified system". #INSTALL MODCHIP WII MOD#You won't need to have a mod chip inside the Wii for this to work. The folks at Hackmii have released an installer which will will let you play DVDs on your Wii, something which Nintendo's console should really do already. ![]()
